While the side effects of CBD are generally rare and relatively mild, it’s still vital to understand the impact.
CBD has rapidly grown in popularity over the last several years for the benefits it provides people suffering from a myriad of diff erent issues. Especially for those looking for alternative treatments for their condition, CBD has been something of a godsend. But even with all the benefits it provides, it’s not without its side effects.
Luckily the potential side effects of CBD are much less severe than with THC according to several reports. This separation is even more significant once you take into account the benefits provided versus any potential side effects.
However, there are still a few fairly common side effects of CBD, especially when taking too much. So let’s briefly go over these side effects and what you can do to mitigate them.
Probably the most common of all CBD side effects, some users report moderate to severe dry mouth after taking their dose. Researchers believe this may happen because the endocannabinoid system inhibits saliva production, but more research is needed to be sure.
This dry mouth can be managed simply by staying hydrated throughout the day, which is something most doctors already suggest. This is also a perfect example of how many of the most common side effects of CBD are easily handled if they ever become a nuisance.
This is an interesting case, as for some people CBD has a distinct wake-inducing effect. But for many others, CBD can more often be related to a lack of energy. While researchers aren’t exactly sure why this happens yet, some believe it’s partly down to biology, while others think it’s related to taking too much CBD at once.
As you can imagine, if you’re starting on a regimen of CBD, you should avoid driving or operating heavy equipment until you’re sure how the CBD affects you personally.
A relatively rare, but still reported side effect of CBD is lightheadedness. While researchers aren’t exactly sure what causes this yet, they believe it’s related to another potential side effect of CBD, a slight drop in blood pressure.
According to reports, in most cases, this lightheadedness can be easily cured with a bit of caffeine. But take caution, as caffeine can dehydrate the body, so be sure to keep drinking water as well.
Slight Drop In Blood Pressure
A few studies have indicated that high doses of CBD can cause a small drop in blood pressure. This isn’t a big deal for most people, but if you already take medication for low blood pressure, it’s all the more important to discuss things with your doctor before starting on CBD.
Effect On Parkinson’s
There is some early research which suggests taking high doses of CBD may actually be making symptoms like involuntary muscle movement and spasms much worse for people with Parkinson’s Disease.
Research is still new, and researchers don’t understand much about this connection, but if you or a loved one suffers from Parkinson’s it’s probably best to avoid CBD until more is known.
CBD has proven that it’s a wonderful option for people suffering from lots of different conditions. However, like any other drug, it has its side effects. For instance, we still don’t have enough research on CBD for researchers to suggest CBD to pregnant women, but that’s simply a precaution not an indictment of CBD.
It’s always imperative that you consult your doctor before starting on any long-term regimen. This is especially true if you’re already on another medication, as CBD can sometimes interact in unexpected ways. Regardless, the side-effects of CBD are nothing compared with the quality of life it’s been able to provide many people.
